Unix is what makes both Apple Mac OS X, the operating system for all of Apple's products - Mac, iPod, iPhone and iPad, as well as Linux - which is what the majority of all other smart phones (Google android devices) and tablets run on, possible.  Being based on Unix is what also makes Apple's Mac OS X "from the start" far more secure than M$ Windows BTW....
